DeSmuME 0.9.2 released!

This version of DeSmuME releases some odds and ends. A few new games are playable, and RTC works for day/night games. Additionally, the windows and linux ports have had a slew of new features added. And finally, the addition of a preliminary software rasterizer (which may be selected instead of opengl) will allow you to work around frustrating display issues.

  3. deda says:

great, great ,great!! but, a little piece of advice, don’t play with this emul with windows vista, that OS makes some bad jokes! like reboot! but congratulation for the emul, that rocks!

  4. Player says:

Hey guys, I have two questions.
    1. Playing Pokemon Diamond, can you use the Pal Park? Or there’s a problem with it? Everything works perfectly, but when I’m supposed to see the option to select 6 pokemons to import on the main menu I can’t see it. Should I get the Mystery Gift or it’s something the Emulator doesn’t support yet?

    2. Is there any direct way to speed up the emulator? I’m used to see many settings, but it’s all split up and simple here…I tried pressing TAB permanently and setting Frame Skip to 9 and it only helped a bit.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. XMSFel6 says:

not sure about Pal Park, but for speeding up you can press the + key on the keyboard to speed up 2D stuff (like battles, menus, and indoor stuff) and maybe some 3D stuff i dunno

  6. moll1 says:

Naruto Path of the Ninja black screen on item menu I tested official 0.9.2 version and rev 2113
Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood black screen on map

  7. lbalbalba says:

    @moll1,

You might wish to consider filing bug reports for that on the official sourceforge bugtracker for desmume at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=164579&atid=832291

  8. Steve says:

I have a small problem with the 9.2, everytime I go to extract it from the ZIP file it ends up freezing up on me and i’m not able to get it at all

  9. maroon1 says:

Why developers waste their time working with none-sse2 version ?

There are a very few people that don’t have CPU with SSE2 instruction.

I think developers should focus on adding SSSE3 and SSE4.1 support to desmume

  10. chandler says:

when will the new version be out?

  11. Anonymous Coward says:

SSE3 and 4 ? Yeah, and why not AMD 3DNow! as well while their at it ?
    :P

  12. lbalbalba says:

@chandler: the next release will be out when the next release will be out
    :P
Although Ive heard rumors that it might already be in just a few weeks from now…

  13. Supanut says:

Hey guys, I found the solution for the ingame saving! First you must get the DeSmuMe SVN R2160 because there is the DeSmuMe debug.exe inthere. For example in Pokemon Diamond, when you finish the game, when the game is restarted, close the emulator then switched to the debug one, and see if the save game can be loded without any bug. If so, you can continue your adventure. Note this works for me!

  14. dongoon says:

Please continue updating this emulator. It works fine than no$gba. Keep up the good work

  15. Supanut says:

That’s right, DeSmuMe runs games better than No$GBA. with DeSmuMe, I find less bugs than No$GBA. But I’m still waiting for the real 0.9.3 release, not the SVN one. I want to know when does the real DeSmuMe 0.9.3 will be release.

  16. shash says:

It’ll be released whenever it’s released. Further questioning this will only get your comments deleted by me.

  17. Supanut says:

Another reason that I change from V0.9.2 to SVN R2174 is because the video that I record has no sound at all in 0.9.2, but in SVN R2174, it has sound. So, if you want your recorded video to have sound, then I recommended SVN R2174. But if you like no sound you can use your 0.9.2 that you have.

i don’t understund that too goood because i’m from poland so i ask for help and for instruction how i shoold do that

  21. Supanut says:

Now, I had made up the decision. I decided that I would go back and play the SVN R2160 because in the debug version, saving works perfectly, but it’s quite slow. And, since saving works in that version, I’m sure Pal Park will work. If you want your saves work, you should download SVN R2160 and play your rom on the debug version. Since the debug version is slow, you will have to decide what you want. Save game or speed. If you want both, you’ll probably going to have to wait for the real 0.9.3 release.

  22. Supanut says:

Sorry for the dubble-post. But wait, I found another solution for the ingame saving problem for Pokemon! First, you should download SVN SVN R2244. Then, try your save and see if it works. Note it works for me on Windows XP SP3! And, since saving is working, I bet Pal Park will work also. If you have other windows or platform, I don’t know, but just try.

  23. zeromus says:

You know what guys, we are in the middle of changing around the save file formats. Your save files might be corrupted later if you use svn builds that other people make. I might even change the file format before 0.9.3 just to teach everyone a lesson.

  24. Supanut says:

Well, If the save files is broken, I can still use my savestate and creat a new save game later on. Plus, I have two savestate files. If one becomes broken, I can still use another one and overwrite the broken one. Or, I can make backups of both my save game file and my savestate files.

  25. Ink_Owl says:

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for the fantastic emulator. It’s given me a lot of fun :) Looking forward to the updates on the saves, I’ve had a few in-game saves eaten for one reason or another, but that’s the nature of the beast, so I’m not complaining :) Keep up the great work!

  26. alvabsas says:

im happy with the project, i hope you guys make the emulator more faster and complete every day.

  27. Supanut says:

How can I set the buttons and controls in DeSmuMe? I try clicking on the button and replace it with the button I want, but it mess up the controls and buttons. I tried in every versions I have, but it gives me the same result

  28. daniel says:

    very good the ideas

  29. James says:

did they fix the saving on pokemon that we go directly to menu screen and continue instead of using save state?
im battling the elite four now and when we beat them we go back to the game menu which starts all over again.

  30. Supanut says:

Yes, it fixed! Now Pokemon Diamond works well on SVN R2244! I recommended this version because the saves work and the emulator was also fast!

  31. findingo101 says:

    what is SVN R2244?

  32. PB says:

  33. Supanut says:

Hey, I found a newer SVN Version for DeSmuMe! I don’t really know what’s new because I haven try to run it yet. *I manage to try it at the School computer, but it crash, Maybe it will work at my house I don’t know.

  34. Baines says:

I’ve got the same problem Steve mentioned on May 12th. I believe it is caused by a conflict with some kind of security software, such as an antivirus program. Specifically, I’m pretty certain the problem is AVG anti-virus. (I am running on XP SP3 with AVG 8.5(free) anti-virus and Zone Alarm Pro firewall. I am reluctant to test further, particularly in trying to get AVG to co-exist with DeSmuME, if indeed that is the problem.)

This conflict is crippling, and may even be dangerous to the health of your PC. The extraction itself runs slow because the antivirus program is scanning the executable during the extraction. In my case, my hard drive light also came on and stayed on through the process.

Things get much worse if you fail to kill the extraction attempt. Once the executable is copied to your directory, you can be pretty much hosed, as the antivirus program simply will not stop whatever it is trying to do. Clicking on the executable to delete it makes it even worse, as you’ve now got Windows trying to do its own stuff while your Antivirus software has already taken over your system. In my case, this led to Explorer crashing, and it took over ten minutes for it to restart. I resorted to trying to kill the antivirus from the Task Manager (which took a while to appear itself), but of course security programs don’t like being killed, so they kept respawning. Eventually using kill process tree on everything I saw that started with “avg” managed to hit something that worked long enough for me to get rid of the DeSmuME executable.

  35. lbalbalba says:

Bad, bad virus scanner. Having no problems with McAfee or Norton :P

  36. Supanut says:

If you are tired of solving the ingame saving problem in Pokemon, then I recommended that you try SVN R2259 because ingame saving in Pokemon works, and maybe Pal Park will work also, I don’t know. Just try then you will know.

  37. Satisfaction says:

I tried everything that was suggested, including what was in the FAQ, about saving in-game for Pokemon Platinum. I was still unsuccessful. The FAQ’s instructions did not work and I know I followed them correctly. =\

I got all the way up to the Elite Four and beat the game, so I was ready to start with the post-Elite Four sidequests, and it automatically saved my game. To my horror, it didn’t recover the save file. I was perfectly fine using save states up until then.

By the way, the FAQ instructions led me to an “Assertion failed!” error at the file load screen, forcing me to shut down DeSmuME.

I do have a save state before entering the Elite Four battles. Is there any way I can in-game save and be able to load it properly so that I can do all the bonus stuff after the Pokemon League is over?

I understand this has become an annoying topic so if you can still answer, take your time.

  38. Supanut says:

Which version you are using? If you are still using 0.9.2, then I think there is no way to get it work. The only way to solve this problem is to move your save states and the save files into the directly of SVN R2259. that you’ve downloaded. If not, then go and search on google. And, make sure you put them in the right place! Save game files are in the battery folder, the roms are in the rom folder, the savestate files are in the states folder. Note I try it and the saves works, so far haven’t try defeating the whole game yet, but maybe I will.

  39. Supanut says:

Sorry again for the double post. But, the emulator also depends on the systems/platforms you’re using. Even though you’d changed to the SVN R2259, but the saves may not work perfectly on other systems/platforms, but only I know that it works well on Windows XP Pro SP3, so far haven’t try SP2 or SP1 yet, maybe it’ll work like SP3.

  40. GF says:

    I can’t use PCAP.
Please make disabled version of Wifi!

  41. z says:

satisfaction, the faq also says what to do if you get a wifi assert: redownload and try again, since the very day we made the release, we caught that mistake and uploaded a new package. if youre downloading from some other source, maybe you shouldn’t do that.

  42. Mattwo says:

is the SVN really 9.3? I only see mention of 9.2

  43. Mattwo says:

also does pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of the sky save in this emulator?

  44. Supanut says:

I guess it’s just the early builds of V0.9.3. For the Pokemon Mystery Dungin Explorers of Sky will save or not I don’t really know, just try then you’ll know.

  45. Satisfaction says:

I did actually try the SVN build and I moved everything to the right folders. Still didn’t work.

Also, everyone is suggesting at least 3 or 4 different builds, like SVNr2244, 2259, 2272, etc., so which one do I use? Wouldn’t it be logical to use the latest build?

    >>Zeromus did suggest that we don’t use SVN builds and if we do, we do at our own risk.

Even if I do get the save working, could I get it to work where I currently am at in the game, or must I start a New Game in order for it to finally work?

I forgot to say thank you in advance in my last comment, so I will say it now ;) Thanks for the info so far.

  46. lbalbalba says:

yes, it would make sense to just use the latest svn revision. I believe the main reason zeromus is suggesting to not use svn builds, is because most people dont build the releases themselves, but rather get them from ‘some-other-3rd-party’, in which case it is impossible for the desmume team to know how it was build and are unable to offer support on them. If however, you are knowledgable enough to use svn yourself, build it yourself, determine what options you did or did not use during the build, and use the sf bugtracker to post a bug on that, then you are knowledgeable enough to use svn builds.
    :)

Furthermore, svn is always in a state of flux so things are expected to break. If you dont want that, then stick to the formal releases. If you can deal with that, then be usefgul and post bugs to the bugtracker.

At least, I think thats what zeromus was getting at. But dont take my word for it, ask him instead.
    :)

  47. Satisfaction says:

    Hmm I see.

The question right beneath the Pokemon Save, which is the last one in the FAQ, said that due to legal issues in France, DeSmuME has stopped its development.

I don’t know how recently that was posted or whether or not it bears any significance toward future releases, (if there will be any D:) but if that’s true, does that mean we pretty much *have* to rely on SVN builds from now on? It said in that question that the DeSmuME can now only be continued by others who are willing to develop it further…

Can someone let me know if that question was added fairly recently and what it means?

  48. James says:

Pokemon Platinum ingame saving still doesnt work for any desmume, ive tried SVN R2244 and it still cannot load the .SAV file in the battery folder, all i can do is save states, which cannot be process after beating the elite four when the game resets. this really sucks cuz theres not much i can do unless the ingame saving works

  49. Satisfaction says:

James, I’m having the same exact problem. Read what I wrote above.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a clean-cut solution. The best we could do is wish the staff good luck in the next release! =D
