DeSmuME 0.9.6 released!

This release focuses on emulation bugfixes and features of interest
to homebrew developers. Most users will find that the compatibility
is increased substantially.

Some save files may be invalidated due to use of broken crc logic.
Back up your DSV files before using this version of the emulator or else
the game might wipe it.

Users of OSX, gtk, cli and gtk-glade frontends please note that now we
have a common directory in ~/.config/desmume for config file,
saves and savestates. The old .desmume.ini will be moved
automatically with the name config but you have to move your saves
manually.

UPDATE We have released a new version of the source tarball to fix problems building the glade frontend. If you downloaded your copy before 05/25/2010, please download it again :)

Glad to hear it! Been looking forward to 9.6m and the fixes it brings.

  2. KomaCarma Says:

Ooh, sweet. Doesn’t seem to be up at DL yet, though.

  3. Yepyep Says:

wow!!! finally an official build. I’ve been playing many NDS games using DESMUME. It’s better than owning a real DS. Thank you very much for making this possible. Continue improving this awesome emulator.

  4. shash Says:

Yepyep: You should own a DS in order to get support here.

  5. SyafiQ Says:

Here’s the link to the DeSmuME files btw:

I’ve made it on ubuntu 10.04 64bit, so i don’t know if it work on other distro or version.

  7. shash Says:

SyafiQ: Simply let them use the Download page on the main page of this blog, as it’s more clear than that page :)

  8. Anonymous Says:

    Wooh congrats :)

  9. LM Says:

    I’m so happy!:) thank you!

  10. Max G Says:

I’ve tried some games which previous version can’t work correctly. RE deadly silence, dragon quest 5, ninja gaiden… all works very fine. shadows are now stay correctly behind objects. professor layton(s) now we can see the missing ‘yellow arrows’. great job!

  11. Majuss Says:

Where are the saves under Mac? I can’t find them to replace them with my old saves…

  12. Kilrha Says:

Thanks for this fantastic new release. I gained a nice speed-up in pokemon heartgold. thanks very much!!

  13. z Says:

Majuss, see the information “for Users of gtk, cli and gtk-glade frontends”

  14. Fred Says:

Phoenix Wright’s fifth case works now. Nice work guys! : D

  15. XMSFel6 Says:

Nice job guys, keep up the good work!

  16. Nut Says:

Yes, yes! The day finally came!
I was waiting for this day!

  17. Bryan Says:

Boost button on mac still doesn’t function at all :(

  18. Carlos Says:

    Muchas gracias!!!

  19. z Says:

Thank us by buying a real DS anyway so someone gets bread on their table.

  20. Joshua Says:

It’s good to support the video game industry by actually buying their products. It gives the developers an incentive to produce the quality titles we all come to love.

  21. Ice Cold Killer Says:

lol 1 day i was off of this site and 0.9.6 got released :D
thanx, now i will start to test it and i will report if i find some bugs!
btw hope that there will be wi-fi on 0.9.7 :D

  22. MemoNick Says:

Congratulations. My regrets are that I can’t help.

  23. Heavylink Says:

Excellent. always nice to see an update from DeSmuME
Ill be testing it out! :)

  24. MemoNick Says:

I’m sorry to have to post/comment again. I have a suggestion, which I think wouldn’t be hard to make. This suggestion is to make an option that when you run the emulator, the last game you played runs automatically.

  25. Ice Cold Killer Says:

wtf where is the PIANO :D
I Tought it would be on 0.9.6…… (but it would be on the 0.9.7 :D )

  26. shash Says:

MemoNick: The source code is available, being easy to add, you can do it yourself.

  27. Kilrha Says:

    @ z

I have a ds and I have pokemon heartgold too but the reason I downloaded this is because I want to be a programmer so I mess a bit with the SVN builds and see what has been done in new releases.

  28. Majuss Says:

    Hi,
could someone tell me why Pokémon pearl have some laggs under 10.6.3?
It runs with 63fps but there are still some minor laggs

  29. MemoNick Says:

Thanks shash. What if I add it, can I email it to them and include it in the next build?

  30. geass81 Says:

i am tasting the new pokemon soul sliver and hart gold on this new update to see if and how long it gos with out locking up

so far so good i have beat the farst gym and still working good

  31. Antonio Says:

How i can compile it to ubuntu?

  32. Kohryu Says:

This is an absolutely amazing emulator! This version runs pretty much every DS game 100% perfectly, and at 60 FPS for me. Keep up the amazing work!

  33. Matt Says:

Norton Anti-Virus said that there is virus in 0.9.6.
    What is is going on?

  34. Ice Cold Killer Says:

well, well i tested pokemon soul silver and it runs at 60 fps with all the hacks and the best quality settings enabled (i had 60 fps at 0.9.5 too :D ) so no complaining for speed from me.
but if i use bios and enable the swi option the speed drops at 40 fps (but in 0.9.5 it was running with that option at 60 fps!) and the problem is really on the bios and not in the firmware like you sayd in the faq :D
another bad thing for me is that you released that cheat converter with the desmume but you dident released the firmware editor that you gave on the svn directory with the other tools!
and the last is that you still have the manual for the 0.9.5 version on the Read Me.win file which comes with the 0.9.6 release :D

  35. shash Says:

MemoNick: In the highly improbable case that it happens, do a patch and send to the current developers and they’ll check it and integrate if it’s not a piece of crap.

Antonio: If you don’t know how to compile, you shouldn’t be using neither Linux nor a computer.

Matt: Norton Anti-Virus is wrong. And it’s a piece of crap.

  36. MemoNick Says:

    Thanks shash for your replies.
Matt: I agree with shash, there was a time when I used it. I’ve stopped because it’s no longer good.

  37. boushi Says:

it seems when i load a save state it freeze?

  38. Kurogane Says:

    hmm.
i can’t use cheats at my soulsilver
it says i can’t save cheats to file
    why ? o_õ

  39. Joshua Says:

The compatibility has been astronomically enhanced with this release. What about making speed a bit more of a priority for the next commercial release? I know some older computers would enjoy that. I still have to work on getting my main PC fixed and it sucks being bound to a lower quality comp.

  40. Ice Cold Killer Says:

i think they wll work on speed on 0.9.8 or later.
i have tested 90 games so far with the numerical order of the advancescene.com and they all boot perfectly so yes compability with games is like 90% compared to a real ds.

  41. MemoNick Says:

Yeah compatibility is great. I think I have also found a bug. When you advance frame by frame, there is no option to return to normal.

  42. RPGWiZaRD Says:

I think performance could be focused more on than previously as compability is on a such a great level now and Desmume is like the most compability/least performance focused emulator I know of. Yes I have a very fast comp, i7-860 @ 4.1GHz so it works fine for all games for me but just stating my personal opinion so don’t shoot me now thx. There’s lots of possible performance optimizations to be made for this emulator and it would probably possible to make the speed up to twice as fast if that was focused on.

  43. shash Says:

RPGWiZaRD: You don’t have the slighest idea of what you’re talking about, so shut the fuck up.

  44. kabir94 Says:

Antonio simply download the source. Then enter whit terminal in the folder and do “make” and “sudo make install”.
I don’t remember if there are some dependence, but when i compiler it i don’t have problem.
    P.s. my english suck.
If you wan’t, download my .deb here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4376113/desmume_0.9.6-1_amd64.deb

  45. Ice Cold Killer Says:

pff i have just tested all the enhanced nintendo dsi games and THEY ALL WORK!!!
it would be nice if you upgade that emu to dsi (by emulating the 2 dsi cameras, the ndsi firmware and other stuff)

  46. Hendo Says:

i am sorry i downloaded this and one i cant use mic two save state says error and three it keeps creating a new save file everytime i start it and so far no one has said a word about any problems they are having either you can reply with something that is helpful and makes this thing work fully or its not even worth the time yeah it runs the games smoothly but if the mic and saving dont work whats the point if you keep getting stuck or have to start over bc of this yeah it would b nice if you can fix that problem or give advice on how to fix it myself

thank you and have a nice day

  47. Hendo Says:

ok so i figured out why save state wasnt working i had renamed the folder but didnt redirect it on the emulator

  48. Kilrha Says:

    @ hendo

Not one emulator in the entire world is perfect. Don’t you know how much work it takes to get it working as good as this? Maybe you should try it yourself and maybe then you will understand.

  49. RPGWiZaRD Says:

shash> No need to get to that tone and if you do then at least give some proper arguments. If the emulator had dynamic recompilers that would probably give a huge speedup for example. I’ve often checked the rev updates and I saw no hints about performance improvements since last official release so it’s difficult to not get the idea this emulator is still heavily focused on compability even if far majority of games works without any issues or any serious issues at least. At this point you might have to spend a long time to find compability bugs or try and fix them that might only help one or a few games while it might not be that difficult at all to find a way to improve performance by even 5% that would benefit almost everyone. PCSX2 for example rely on dynamic recompilers in order to be able to run at playable speeds, it also has a great dual core support and utilizes the latest DirectX runtime and uses some DX11 features even.

Instead of a typical answer like, the emulator is free and open sourced so you’re free to do it yourself with your sparetime, I’d be interested in your arguments why there is like still at this stage nearly 100% focus on compability. You have different ways you can go being an emulator author, why choose exactly this path? Is it that much easier and faster to fix the bugs or unimplemented stuff that’s there perhaps still at this stage?

  50. shash Says:

RPGWiZaRD: I used that tone, because your affirmations were full of crap, at least without proper profiling and proof. As why zeromus and company focus on compatibility, I guess it’s because what’s really important on an emulator. To play fast, you already have the real thing. You may not agree, but as long as you are not part of the dev team, you’ll have to live with that decision.

  51. Nut Says:

Speed is no problem to me. Read the FAQ on how to make the emulator run faster.

  52. z Says:

I’ve got years worth of work to do without even considering speedups. By the time I’m done with that, nobody will need speedups. You see, slow emulation is a problem that eventually solves itsself. Bugs don’t fix themselves.

  53. MemoNick Says:

RPGWiZaRD: If you don’t like this emulator, simply find another one that supports nearly all games and has great speed.

P.S. Good Luck in finding one, because you will need all the luck possible!

  54. RPGWiZaRD Says:

I don’t have any issues with speed, I can already run it at above full speed for any game on this i7-860 overclocked to 4.1GHz and I prefer running many games faster than 60 FPS. I did measure a ~8% speedboost with this v0.9.6 compared to r3483 though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy with the emulator and it’s by far the best NDS emulator out there. It’s just I’m a performance freak and if I was personally an emu author I’d weigh compability / performance around 60% / 40%.

  55. z Says:

Personally if I were the governor of the Ticino canton of Switzerland I’d weigh timber/tourism around 60% / 40%

  56. Maurinho Says:

Thanks, i been waiting for this so long!

On a phenom II x4 955 3.2 ghz, 2×2gb ram, gforce 7100 all the games works 60fps so far!

Thanks, thanks, and thanks again :)

  57. jimson Says:

WOTWOOOO! this is just awesome! it finally fixes the trading bug in pokemon soulsilver and heartgold! i love it! sweet! thanks guys!

  58. Majuss Says:

    Did someone use the Mac-Version?!
Pokemon Pearl has lot of laggs under Mac and is unplayable…
Nearly every game under Mac laggs like shit o.O
    Under Windows everything works perfect

  59. Asian Says:

    Hi,

Norton Anti-Virus said that there is virus in 0.9.6.
    What is is going on?

    This is a game Emu compare with others(no$gba 2.6a & iDeaS1033)

    Thanks for your hard work!!

Please check your file, why Norton detect it as a “virus”…

    Thanks~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  60. Gamer X Says:

Ive been waiting for long. nice work team! ^_^
are action replay cheats supported though?

  61. shash Says:

Asian: That’s because Norton Anti-Virus is a piece of shit, use a better anti-virus and it’ll get fixed.

  62. Ice Cold Killer Says:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/desmume/develop ¨The project specified does not exist.¨
okay before i have a heart attack i want to know what does that means?
tell me that you have been closed the svn for the visitors and that will be fine, only dont tell me that the project is %$#&!!!

  63. Ice Cold Killer Says:

lol nvm i think it is a problem with sourceforge.net.
¨SourceForge.net continues with unplanned partial outage. Progress continues forward. Time re-estimated for 120 min til resolution¨ :D

  64. Nut Says:

I agree with Shash. Norton is suck. AVG is far more better.
Asian: Quit using Norton, it will keeping report false positives. Use AVG or Avast! instead.

  65. Yoong Says:

Screen freeze while in a middle of dueling on Yu-Gi-Oh 2010 ROA anyone got this problem?

  66. z Says:

i think everyone gets that problem

  67. Fansince2005 Says:

    hello, to all
first of. thx for this great emu which get better and better. amazing work
i have a computer from 2001, very old think and i can only run the nosse2 version.
i dont get more fps then 34 for games like castlevania or ff4
my question is , will it be possible some day that it runs at normal speed on my old pc?
nocash$gba for example runs faster tho, almost normal
and pls dont write comments now like “why dont u buy new pc ?”
    =)

  68. shash Says:

Fansince2005: No, it has already been stated several times. Buy another computer or emulate less demanding consoles.

  69. Fansince2005 Says:

    ok ty shash

  70. Paar Says:

Nice feature would be option to map certain points of lower screen to buttons, like turning the camera in Super Mario 64 DS.
Even better would be option to map analog stick to certain zones on lower screen, emulating movements better in 3D games (again the case of Super Mario 64 DS or Rayman 2). But this is probably hard to program…

  71. z Says:

learn to use lua. i think it could be done right now. at least the buttons part. dunno about the analog stick, you would have to get access to those from lua which would be a bit harder than the virtual buttons.

  72. B Says:

I had 9,4 prior to switching to 9.6 and something bizarre has occured. I was playing pokemon platinum and i beat the elite four without using the save file except for tin the beggining. After beating the elite four i revert back to the old save file and i figure heck it just reverts back to save files not states. So i save it. But it wont save saying theres already a file and it was impossible to save. So now i can’t save file and i cant beat the game. Also i cant seem to load the file to 9.6 either, it won’t let me past the loading screen after title screen

  73. matif Says:

    I can’t play wario ware d.i.y..
Do any one can run wario ware d.i.y. well?

  74. Ambush Says:

This is a really good emulator. Nice improvement over v9.5. I noticed the gfx glitches in SMT: Strange Journey are fixed now. Yeah there are some lag spikes here and there, but what other emulator is as compatible and stable as this one right now? People need to stop bitching and appreciate the hard work that goes into making these emulators for us!

  75. z Says:

B youre out of luck. Read the faq and learn from your mistakes.

  76. B Says:

what did i do wrong? I’ve never encountered a problem like this before

  77. z Says:

The faq said what you did wrong. If youre going to play a game where in-game saving is important, then in-game save from the beginning to verify that it is working rather than waiting til the end.

  78. B Says:

Hm, i did a test in the beginning to verify in game save worked, i did it at 0:08, it worked. But apparently it doesn’t work at the end

  79. WTF Says:

Thank you very much for releasing Desmume 0.9.6. I have been waiting for *quite* a while. Great job.

  80. WTF Says:

Uh-oh… It seems like in-game saving does not work for (at least) one game in 0.9.6.

    2181 – Rosario and Vampire

You can save and load as normal during the game, but if the ROM is reloaded, or if the emulator is closed and then run again, the saves disappear, and so do the unlocked stuff. ^_^

Save type is Autodetect. Tried the different types of EEPROM save types and they still fail.

BTW, I like the toolbar. But it would be great to have a hotkey to toggle show/hide for it. Also, what is Emulation > Shut Up on the menu bar?

  81. shash Says:

WTF: Read the fucking manual, they wrote it for a reason.

  82. SE7EN Says:

    lol @shash

anyways, this was an awesome release! speed was noticeably faster.

  83. tsw19911108 Says:

I am very happy to this release, I have waiting for it a *long* time, too.
I have test pokemon, it lags a lot.
I don’t know what is the problem?
    My computer:
    Duo core 1.80 GHz
    RAM: 1GB
    Vedio card: Intel 82945G

  84. shash Says:

tsw19911108: Your computer is below the requirements.

  85. Leo83 Says:

Congratulation for this release…..better than the previous version.
With this version i can run it on my old PC
    Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with only 512sdram!!
which the previous version crash on this spec.
the speed seems can be tolerate faster…
good luck for the future enhance on this emulator….

  86. soneflo Says:

thanks! worth the wait. it’s significantly faster.

  87. keri3948 Says:

Suikoden Tierkreis has cracking voices ingame regardless of sound settings.

  88. yamhk Says:

    What can I Do??
My Nokia N900 can install DeSmuMe from the App store…..
but i can’t run any “.nds” file copied from my nds……

Is it real that my N900 can play the DS emulator?
    or any problem i met?

    What can i Do??

  89. shash Says:

yamhk: Not produced here, ask the author of the port.

  90. Nut Says:

I agree speed is improving in this release.
    Good luck!

  91. fred Says:

Excellent version, solved a lot of problems. It’s the best emulator i have due to the fact that the graphic plate on my computer is BS.

There is only one thing that bothers me, the lay out of the screens, so i would like to propose an idea, SEPARATE THE TWO SCREENS, so that they could move about of different sizes and so more user friendly.

  92. D-TurboKiller Says:

Wow, excellent release. I think the speed has increased quite a bit for me, and it’s smooth as butter now.
I seem to have one problem that’s bugging me a lot though. I have WarioWare D.I.Y. (U) but I can’t seem to play it. Everytime I reach the menu it asks if the timer is ok, I click yes and then it’s stuck there. Clicking no will just give a message that the ds will be shut now. I was hoping if someone managed to bypass this.

  93. z Says:

fred, as a courtesy i will suggest that you do not hold your breath waiting for that feature.

  94. crazychaoskitty Says:

I’m very happy about the new release, but I played harvest moon rune factory until summer and one day the game started freezing whenever I opened the bag.
This wasn’t happening before, maybe you could tell me why it happens and how I can fix it?
Oh, by the way: Great Job!^^

  95. CaekDaemon Says:

Im havving a wierd glitch with this one. Every now and then, my screen completly goes black and the sound gets stuck on the last note. My computer is completely locked up and has to be turned off at the button.

  96. z Says:

caekdaemon, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your computer sucks.

  97. JustinD Says:

Anyone else having this issue? The MAC version has been running fine a few times, but lately it always freezes when i load up a game. I cant quit it or do anything. Anyone know how to fix this?

PS: Im trying to load up ace attorney: miles edgworth, btw.

  98. juanit0x Says:

Cant save in GTA China wars, what should i do?

  99. z Says:

    justinD, reboot
juanit0x, delete all .sav and .dsv and try again

  100. greyspot Says:

Thanks a ton for this release guys :D

Faster and more compatible. You guys are awesome!

  101. Ulysses Says:

Nice Release, most of my games got improved in performance and speed, good job on tht

I have a problem thoungh while playing Yugioh 5d 2010, when I detroy a monster and send it to the graveyard the game freezes, any suggestion to fix that. I HAVE DONE ALL SUGGESTED IN YOUR faq BUT THE PROBLEM STILL IS THERE.

Keep up with the good job.

  102. gabbuhh Says:

Hey JustinD, I have the same problem. It seemed to work in the beginning but now it is crashing very frequently, especially when I click on the menu. Also, although I am getting nearly 60 fps on my mac, the game still runs quite slow, and when i skip frames, the directional buttons don’t seem to function correctly.

  103. ramapcsx2 Says:

Tried this with Valkyrie Profile, and it really improved over the already “okay” 0.9.4 emulation.
Configuration options and goodies are all there and nice (love the many magnifying scalers), speed is ..well.. It runs full speed on my machine.. :p

So why exactly is a dynarec such a problem again?
Sorry if it’s been asked / answered before :p

  104. beleni Says:

@z i think what @juanit0x have to do its only delete the .dsv but first make a sav backup to import backup memory but anyway how did he/she get that problem. why i didn’t get that on gta ctw

  105. z Says:

we have no interest in dynarecs, thats the problem.

  106. Jean Says:

Thank you, now is the best NDS emulator. I have only one petition: ¿It`s possible to incorporate 1.25x and 1.5x zoom, but using any filter, like HQ or 2XSAI?

Actually the filters include a 2x zoom, it would be better if the filters could be independent.

A lot of greeteing, and sorry from my english.

    Saludos desde Chile.

  107. zeromus Says:

2xSAI only scales at 2x. Look at the name of the filter. Filters perform certain resizes, that is their nature

  108. beleni Says:

well i don’t know what is dynarecs but anyway i think that we didn’t understande what each other are saying but, (sometime thats happed to people that doen’t understand what each other are talking about and everyone know that anyway).what i mean is that if the dsv don’t work maybe it can be working on the 0.9.5 and not on 0.9.6 and if that’s right he/she can use the ibm and ebm to put it work Normal on 0.9.6

  109. CaptainObvious Says:

I own an old DS and the DS lite but I never really use them but this emulator is great and I tested it out on my laptop. I will have a 3.06 Ghz Dual Core i7 soon so maybe that will improve performance but as it stands, performance is great. More importantly for me, the sound is also very clear. Well done on a great release and keep up the great work!

  110. Chris Says:

I am unsure if this works on sp1 for XP.
I do wish you would get on top of that.

  111. shash Says:

Chris: Just try it and report :P

  112. Kilrha Says:

Chris: or just update it to sp3?

  113. Zzz Says:

This is great, i can run it @ my PC without problem.
But, if it is possible, actually I was hoping that I can play it on a netbook :D

  114. whichboy5 Says:

Thanks for releasing the new version!
However, Elite Beat Agents still doesn’t work properly, and the manual 3D settings reset has to be done to make the game run smoothly…

Please kindly look into this issue while developing the next version!
Thanks a lot for your work!

  115. MemoNick Says:

Does Yu-Gi-Oh Reverse of Arcadia work on this version?

  116. z Says:

elite beat agents works fine. you’re wrong.

  117. MemoNick Says:

@whichboy5, maybe your PC specs are not enough? If you are speaking about speed, try removing the sound, as it offers some speedup.

  118. Rob Says:

    Hi…

Is there any NDS emulator for Android?

It seems that the new Android is powerful enough to run the emulation, right?

  119. shash Says:

Rob: Ask google to send Android’s to the team :P Hell, if you get google to send me one, I might even work on a port myself :O

  120. P Says:

Just wanted to say thank you for the great and continuing stream of high quality releases. I’ve been part of the emu “scene” since Zophar’s Domain first came online (a long time ago, RIP!) and it always bothers me that there are so many users who complain, and so few who congratulate. Keep up the great work and thank you!

  121. Brian Says:

Your emulator is truly incredible! I’ve been able to play retail games with very few problems thus far, even recent ones! For that matter, I’m playing on a cheapo laptop with cheapo Intel graphics!

Please add support for mouse button config in a future release. It would be awesome to be able to map right-click to B, and buttons 4 and 5 to Y and X!

Btw, props on the amount of progress you make with each release! Games that were mildly unstable in 0.9.4, (or even had completely unusable features,) now work fine in 0.9.6, with major performance improvements!

Thank you for such an awesome piece of software!

  122. z Says:

RIP zophar’s domain? the zophar’s domain at zophar.net which is not dead?

  123. Negi Says:

Please Make a PPC Mac version??? I can’t seem to get 7.3 to work…..

  124. P Says:

@z – I hadn’t checked in a while, glad to see it’s back (Nov 2006, it was dead for quite some time – almost 2 years).

  125. surferssvroc Says:

hi i play soul silver on the0.9.6 version and it runs quite slowly at about 40fps how can i speed this up, i have tried frame skip and all it does is make the game unresponsive to controls. how can i fix this problem on a mac. any help would be great.

    thanks

  126. zero Says:

truly appreciate your efforts here, thanks a lot:D

  127. Nut Says:

Sorry for not being available for ages.
I want to ask is desmume compatible with Visual C++ 2010 Professional? Can I use it to compile/edit the sources?

  128. z Says:

not unless you disable sse optimizations

  129. Nut Says:

Or maybe is it possible to install both Visual C++ 2010 Professional and 2008 Express and have them run side by side?

  130. z Says:

it is. i have 5 versions of visual studio installed.

  131. Nut Says:

Lol thanks a lot I will try!

  132. anteros81 Says:

I’ve been playing mario and luigi partners in time and the game works great, but I opened up the first mushroom shops and when you go to use the shops the screen goes all black and you can’t see what your buying or get any info on what your purchasing. When you exit the shop the game returns to normal.

Anyway not have this problem when playing this game or do they know a way around this problem.

  133. Kazei Says:

    Hi i have a question.

When is possible to play with desmume in lan PC at PC without needing wifi ?

  134. Nate Says:

Ok, I keep trying to play SoulSilver, and It will either like force me to walk when I am not hitting a key and I can’t move. Or just freeze and become unresponsive. (For Mac.)

  135. Hislop Says:

    Darn… still no OS X Universal binary…

  136. Marcin Says:

Why does this new version have more problems running games then the old version?

  137. shash Says:

Kazei: In the future. Use your magic sphere to get a more exact answer. And while you’re at it, check the lottery numbers, and send some money from the prize.

    Nate: Buy a PC :P

    Hislop: Don’t hold your breath.

Marcin: It doesn’t, you’re full of crap.

  138. Nut Says:

Those of you that sayin’t that this release has more probs than last release are simply lying or their comps are sucks. From my testing, it works great!

  139. BLAZINGSUN Says:

Hello….Can someone help me, im facing problem using desmume in my laptop…here i give my spec :
-AMD Athlon Neo X2 Dual Core Processor L335 1.60 GHz
    -Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
    -2 GB DDR2 SDRAM (1 Dimm)
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 Graphics with 512 MB DDR3 dedicated graphics memory
The problem i’m facing is the low frame rate, a bit lagged, and maybe the problem faced by a computer with the spec less then the requirements.
Anyone please help.. of course i need the help from the TEAM.
    I appreciate the suggestion…
I’m having a great experience from using Desmume in my PC… TQ for developing desmume to us…

  140. adzuke Says:

i’ve just own a real NDS, so now i was trying to transfer my save file (.dsv) from desmume to the console..at first it was loaded nicely. Then after a long play, the saved file seems suddenly corrupts (it cant be loaded, only blackscreen) Anyone know why?

  141. Daniel Says:

    hi ya…
    i’ve got prblem here..

    i play digimon world DS.
i keep play for long time till i got this stuck..
    i load my save..
    n when i want to continue it.. it can’t move anymore.. i press Z ‘b’, X ‘a’.
    but no effect.
then i click the screen but no effect to.

is dis something to do with a BUG??
plzz giv me a solution. THX b4.. ^^v

  142. Nut Says:

Hi…it seams that your prob has something to do with the save…delete your save, both .dsv and .sav file and start from the beginning.

  143. z Says:

blazingsun: your cpu sucks and will never run desmume fast
adzuke: you neeed to use the export backup memory as raw save menu option. but if it loaded even once on the console then i would say the transfer succeeded and any further problems will have to remain musteries
daniel: everyone has that problem with digimon world
nut: perhaps before giving bad advice you should check our bug tracker or forum for the 1000s of people with this problem in this game

  144. Daniel Says:

    Nut : waks…
    i’ve already try it.
but after i’ve play it again from beginning it error again?
must i delete n start again?? dis make me three times try delete it. lol

    Z: zzz….
what about at game MegaMan Star Force – Dragon??!!
it can’t show my char at battle..
just HP point that show up in the fisrt screen n the floor, enemies, n my char all gone. it’s blank.

    so wad bout dis prob??
    anytin solution??

  145. Nut Says:

Then I don’t know as I had never face this issue. Maybe look in the FAQ/forum for solutions? Helpful people there.

  146. Daniel Says:

Nut : if i speed up the game while i play it..
can it be the one who made dis prob??

  147. Nut Says:

Speed has nothing to do with saves. read the FAQ or search the forum for your prob.
Also, the latest milestone build of desmume source is compatible with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I tried compile the latest milestone and it went well.

  148. Nut Says:

Also in my blog at http://www.supanut5.wordpress.com, I had gave your DeSmuMe a rating 10/10!
This shows that DeSmuMe is really good so keep this up!
I tested the latest milestone, milestone build 3723 and it works great, but a bit slower, but that doesn’t matter lol.

  149. Tux Says:

So because Antonio doesn’t know how to compile, he is unworthy of a computer and it’s operating system? Most computer user don’t know shit about compiling things. I really wish they did, but they don’t, and you don’t have to be rude about it.

On a side note, this is a great emulator. Keep up the good work.

  150. Sagax04 Says:

The only reason that I download emulators emulators is for YT lets plays. I own all the consoles, but don’t have a capture card lol. The emulator does not have its own icon though, and crashes a ton.

  151. z Says:

I don’t know who’s crappy or old build youre using. It has an icon and it rarely crashes.

  152. Nut Says:

Sagax04, you’l probably using the very old abandoned builds. Update to the latest official build or latest SVN to fix your crashes.

  153. sobes Says:

HELP how do i cofig the d-pad on an xbox controller?? running on mac. i get a numeric value of 256. 512, 768, 1024, when i touch anything on the d pad or analogues. THANKS FOR PORTING TO MAC

  154. NanoCarp Says:

I have a mac and downloaded the binary for 0.9.6 and for some reason the “search option is grayed out. I was wondering why this was. Am I missing some file that enables this, or is this just not compatible with macs? I can get the cheat list, but it won’t let me do anything but “add cheat” and “remove cheat” but I can’t edit them to find the values to change! Thanks for your help.

  155. neonoa Says:

    thank you

  156. z Says:

sobes, get support from whomever gave you a driver for the microsoft controller on your macintosh. standard usb controllers work just fine.

nanocarp, it isnt compatible with macs.

  157. ecn Says:

nice.. but i got prob with the Pokemon Soul Silver Rom. at first its ok but after hours of exploring the map it will hang-up.

hoping for new updates to be released.

  158. Tsugamu Says:

I’ve tried Hotel Dusk, and It WORKS!!!! 100 PERCENT!!!

    This is magnificient!!

  159. Rico Says:

    hey!
thank u for this great piece of software!
i used to play pokémon soulsilver with version 0.9.4.
now i wanted to resume playing on 0.9.6 – but how can i use my old savegames with the new version?
    could anyone please help me?
    thanks in advance!

  160. Nut Says:

I don’t think you can import the save directly from 0.9.4;since the core has changed a lot since 0.9.4.
Maybe export your save to .sav format then import it into 0.9.6?

  161. z Says:

nut, everything you say is wrong. just stop talking. savegames from 0.9.4 magically work. if they dont magically work then check the path configuration and watch where desmume is creating .dsv files

  162. Nut Says:

    Oh yeah I forgot…sorry guys…

  163. Christopher, the one of many Says:

Hello guys. I’m new to DS emulation on the PC (not emulation in general, just DS), so I was wondering, can DesMuME 0.9.6 run adequately on this laptop?

    Specs:

    2.1ghz dual core

    2gb ram

    128mb graphics card

  164. shash Says:

    Christopher: Try and find out.

  165. Christopher, the one of many Says:

Actually, I looked at the minimum requirements for playable speeds. And yes! My computer just barely passed!

  166. z Says:

so what? dont get too excited until youve tried and found out.

  167. Adrian Says:

Hi! I’ve tried this emulator and it works great, but i have a question: when i load a game this begin inmediately and i wanna watch the “principal window”, where the pictochat is avaible… so is possible to watch the Pictochat in this emulator (i got the last version:0.9.6)??? Where i can configure it?

Thanks and sorry for my english ^^’

  168. z Says:

use external bios images, emulate swi from bios images, use external firmware, boot from firmware. dont ask for help.

  169. Agent15642 Says:

    Hi!
Umm..How can you add cheats on desmume?Like I open up cheats list but then i cant add cheats….

  170. Nut Says:

    Read the FAQ.

  171. Merc Says:

    @Nut:
Yeah, yeah read the faq please if you cant answer questions dont waste space here with your stupid posts.
    @Agent15642:
Cheats? If you cant add cheats in desmume what the hell can you do?
My anwer is go and read the f faq!
    Cheers

  172. Agent15642 Says:

    ok

  173. Nut Says:

In the cheat dialog there is a button to add cheat.
The button are divided into types of cheat eg raw and ar cheats.

  174. Merc Says:

    @Nut
    Well well nice job!
    Bravo!

  175. herald Says:

I’m having a bit of an issue here, on the mac version where can I switch my old sav with the new one? I can’t find any application folder where to find the new save :\

If there’s a manual or something that would help a lot.

Aside from that it runs fine =o

  176. z Says:

there is plenty of documentation on this web site, some of which (the faq) includes the answer to your question

  177. bluesman Says:

    Hi Guys,
I’ve got my NDS dead, I think because of the (in)famous fuse…
I’ve been following desmume development for months, I tried it time to time and it always worked flawlessy, on every pc (all linux-es). Now I’m experiencing some issue. Every roms I try to run, the pointer keep running in the lower left corner. It’s a pain. I looked around on the internet and I did not find anyone with the same problem.
I’m on Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a black Macbook. I tried with the official ubuntu packages and also recompiling the last version from sources.

Any hint appreciated. And, btw, thanks for the great piece of software :)

  178. Supersmshbros Says:

Is Desmume still getting good progress? I mean is it about ready for another stable release.? Just wondern.

  179. Nut Says:

Yeah…the documentations are accessible from the home page.
The FAQ will answer most questions. But if not, read the manuals or ask on the forum.

  180. a Says:

For the MAC version, 70% of the time whenever I right click or try to click file, emulation, config, etc. the thing will freeze on me…. Is this a bug :(

  181. Nut Says:

Is Desmume still getting good progress? I mean is it about ready for another stable release.? Just wondern.

    Whenever it’s done.

  182. Merc Says:

Well they are at 3753 rev so they will propably stop at 3800/3900 to build the new version!
But that can take 2-3 months……..
But i dont care because the next time i will use desmume will be at pokemon black and white usa release (i suppose they will be both supported :D )

  183. Agent15642 Says:

i just have a thought like seriously desmume for the mac version should have a cheats list to use lie for pokemon soul silver its a waste to keeps training your pokemon for like 2 hours or so..

  184. Agent15642 Says:

the lie part was supposed to be like sorry

  185. Merc Says:

    its a waste of time?
cheats take away the fun and challenge from games!
    but thats my opinion….

  186. Nut Says:

    @Merc
I think so, they’ll probably compile the next RTM release at build 3800 or 3900;but who knows;we’ll have to follow up with the milestone builds.

  187. z Says:

nut, quit speculating. we don’t even pay attention to build numbers.

  188. Kilrha Says:

@ agent15642: That’s the point of the game. train your pokemon to become stronger so you can progress further and that takes patience. deal with it.

  189. Merc Says:

but usually it takes 400 revisions for a release :D

  190. z Says:

    according to my records: 418, 638, 593

  191. Nomura Says:

    this emulator is freaking awesome!!!
hope you guys keeping the fabulous works

  192. Merc Says:

wow thanks for the info z!

  193. Marky Says:

    I have problem. I play Yu-gi-oh WC 2010 A few minutes DeSmuME freeze. :(

  194. Nut Says:

I believe you Z…from my experience it takes around your record…but I don’t think it can takes like 500-600 revisions before the final build…
Well…at some point in the past or future it might…
Anyway great to see that it is still in active development…

  195. JohnyD13 Says:

Keep up the great work, and release version ONE soon please! XD

  196. matt Says:

ive been playing pokemon pearl using the 9.6 mac emulater however i cant figure out how to put in action replay cheats all i see is the list with the ‘raw’ or ‘internal’ cheats please help!

  197. someone Says:

I am running the updated glade build on OS X, and the program hangs whenever I right click the window. Please investigate this bug, as it had been reported in one of the previous comments.

  198. Aaron Says:

Hmmm… How does one get the cheat codes to work?

  199. Simple Says:

I’m getting segfaults on linux when I touch the Enable Audio option in the GTK frontend with latest desmume and GTK+-2.20.1 can anyone confirm this?

Also would it be possible to have desmume (gtk) saving not only keybindings and joybindings to the config file but also other options such as Gap and View?

  200. svaemulink Says:

All 2-d games fork just fine. But if you run Zelda Phantom or Zelda Spirit tracks – you will see – speed not perfect. How can i force render speed? i have 2xCore (4) CPU with 4 GB RAM and 1 GB video (OS -windows XP) – it’s not problem because of the low cpu. Also open Gl driver very glitches. if you try to run Final FinalFantasy 3 – the same situation. For example No$gba 2.6a – can run this games at MAX speed but with many graphical glitches.
Also i can’t find option – like Emulation Speed LCD Refresh – Unlimited MHz Disaster 100% – it can improve speed.

  201. dandman999 Says:

Thanks for this, it appears to fix the holes in the karts in Mario Kart DS, or it was fixed in 0.9.5, I forgot to check for updates before… And the sound appears to be a lot better in Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin too. It still sometimes repeats the SFX, but the BGM is much quicker and less glitched.

  202. z Says:

matt: not supported. out of luck. use bootcamp or virtual machine
someone: things reported in comments arent paid much attention to since we do have a bug tracker. but that bug won’t get fixed, it is some glitch in gtk on osx. workaround: don’t rightclick
    aaron: they do work
simple: those issues are worth entering into the bug tracker
svaemulink: the faqcontains tips to speed up. list the ghz of your cpu when posting specs. opengl has bugs thats why we made softrasterizer. You can’t find unlimited mhz disaster because it isn’t supported.
dandman999: the black holes were caused by using the opengl renderer. the faq wouldve told you to use softrasterizer to fix graphical bugs. the faq would also tell you how to fix the sound in advance wars, but you need to be using the windows version

  203. Merc Says:

Hmm why Pokemon HG and SS are not supported?
And what do you mean by not supported?
It is because they use a protection?
And what about Pokemon Black and White which will be released on 19.09.10?
    Will you “support” them?

LOL: Zeromus: “touch the damn pokeball like it says, dont press a button” :)

  204. z Says:

merc: because pokemon pirates annoy us. we won’t support new pokemon games either. i sort of hope they don’t work on desmume.

  205. Mercenery Says:

    Pokemon pirates?
but what about people who want to really play those games?
it is your job anyways to make all the games playable! (why the hate for pok series?)

  206. Eve Says:

Yeah, I see the input section for the Action Replay Codes, but when I try to save, I get an error message that says “Can’t save cheats to file”. So when I exit out of the cheats window, and re-enter. All the codes I just input are gone. Can someone please help me understand this, cuz’ I can’t find the solution anywhere.

  207. KQ Says:

Hi, i read on the faq that the wifi application is in heavy developement, is there a chance it will be out by 0.9.7?
    Thanks

  208. raine Says:

dementium 2 won’t work. it display nothing

  209. wardrake Says:

This is a great emu, but I hope the optimizations will be of great interest in the author’s mind. I, no I mean WE, that have a low-end gaming pc would like to enjoy this too you know!. As for now, the competitor “NoMoneyGBA” leads in terms of optimization (as for me ^^, cuz it runs much more faster, without those frameskipping badazz). Don’t be offended, becuz, I am truly hopeful for this emu. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

  210. z Says:

merc: like i said pokemon pirates annoy us. go away.
eve: run desmume from a folder in your documents directory or desktop
    kq: no chance whatsoever
    raine: i agree. tough break.
    wardrake: optimizations are boring

  211. svaemulink Says:

    It’s not because CPU.cpu- Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz.
if you enable or disable all speed up options – it doesn’t makes any difference.

  212. beleni Says:

wtf the cheatconverter its a virus? and what the hell is that for?

  213. z Says:

svaemulink: how many fps do you get? on your cpu it should probably be near 60 but not quite to it. probably more than 50. how do you know its not because of cpu? are you the expert on this emulator, or am I?
beleni: your virus scanner sucks and is reporting a false positive

  214. Mercenery Says:

rolf im not a pok pirate!
    KQ: in your dreams!

  215. matt Says:

pokemon black works on desmume..so does white. I just dumped my cart i got today to test it..and it works…doesn’t work on no$gba or flash carts.

  216. Totodile Says:

    Yay!
DeSmuME can play pokémon Black and White

  217. svaemulink Says:

    I have a many programs – to watch CPU usage (it’s about 80 – 90%)
Maybe it’s because – this emulator don’t have optimization for Dual core processors. If you run Sribblenauts – it’s 60 and more fps.
    If you run Zelda Phantom hourglass (1ST 3d render video) – it’s about – 11,20,30, 40, 60 (it’s not stable)
i’l try to disable sound and other options and it’s the same situation – it’s very strange.
I have the same problems with No$gba it’s show 20 FPS if sound enable (without sound it’s 60 and more )
but if you use NO$Zommer you can activate EXtra option – EX5
No$gba + NO$Zommer + EXTRA EX5 enable – can run Zelda Fhantom h. with 60 and more Fps but with many glitches(sometimes game run too fast because of the sound glitches and freeze sometimes (with sound enable) )
IF it’s possible to combine No$gba graphic plugin with DeSmuME sound plugin – it can be almost PERFECT emulator for DS.

  218. z Says:

svaemulink: you’re wrong. it has dual core optimizations. opengl renderer is garbage dont use it. if you get those differences in fps then your computer is broken. hint: if it happens for nocash also, why are you in our forum asking us about it? find out why your computer is broken/overheating/virus infested. it is not possible to combine nocash and desmume in any degree whatsoever. desmume doesn’t have plugins.

  219. Nut Says:

I agree that it is not possible to merge no$gba and desmume…at least if we partner with the no$gba developer and if we do dat, desmume might not be open source anymore…

  220. z Says:

    That’s not possible.

  221. Mercenery Says:

Nut: lol do you even know who is the dev of no$gba?
No$gba was a good emu but the dev was umm “cheap”!
But ideas and desmume are free :)
    Respect to the devs :)
z: are you the one who is working on wi-fi?
if yes is there any good progr on it?
    and something else :)
If pokemon gamers are pirates then why are you working on wi-fi at all? :D
    Isnt that illegal too? :)
    (of course im just jok)

  222. z Says:

merc: there is no progress. what does pokemon have to do with wifi? make some sense.

  223. fred Says:

The game spider-man 3 freezes wen it gets to do a system save, it asks me to reset and insert memory card, in the faq it says the solution is:
(should be autodetect_size=1, detected as 3),
however i have failed to fix the problem.
would somebody please tell me how to do it. Thanks

  224. z Says:

close desmume. delete all .sav and .dsv that looks like it has to do with spiderman 3. boot the game but pause it immediately! set the save size to 4kbit. unpause emulation. should work.

  225. Nut Says:

Pokemon White works for me in full speed!
    My spects:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo
    CPU: 2.4GHZ
    Ram: 3.0GB
    Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8400
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86

  226. someone Says:

I just tried running Yu Gi Oh! World Championship 2010 on version 0.9.6 running on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Intel). Unfortunately, the emulation core often hangs during the computer’s turn in a duel. Sometime, the sound emulation will keep working, and the graphics will hang. Other times, everything will grind to a halt. Since I did not observe this behaviour in 0.9.5, I believe this is a regression introduced in version 0.9.6. It is still present in the trunk. I managed to reproduce this bug on both my own CLI build and the official mac build.

  227. zeromus Says:

dont report bugs here this is just for noisy people with no brains. We have a forum and a bug tracker, both of which already have people complaining about this issue

  228. svaemulink Says:

Hey my computer is not broken of virus infected LOL.
I can run many PC games with full speed (like new Tomb Raider or Starcraft II)
I can run at full speed dreamcast emulator and games Shenmu1,2 or Skyes of Arkadia (at 200 fps and higher) Dreamcast is MUCH powerful than DS.
I can run at very HIGH speed Nintendo 64 emulator and games.
I also have the best anti virus program – Kaspersky.
I’m not interesting in Pokemon – i want to emulate Zelda or Final Fantasy 3,4
    i don’t use opengl
DeSmuMe has very bed optimization for 3d games

  229. z Says:

svaemulink: you don’t know anything. ive already told you your computer is broken if it gets framerates that different and I have no idea what “1ST 3d render video” means but since opengl is listed first, i can only assume you mean that instead of software rasterizer. anyway, you’re wrong, and you don’t know anything about emulation, and I am going to delete anything else you say other than “oh man I was wrong and you were right”
